Munich in Melbourne – 28th June 2023 *BOOKED OUT*

Despite it being a cold and rainy night on the 28th of June, our “Munich in Melbourne” event was fully booked.

With a group consisting of a nice mix of regular and first-time visitors, we served German-themed refreshments – pretzels, sausage, German beer – and mulled wine, deliciously made by our very own Sophie – a real crowd-pleaser! The music got underway a little before 8pm, with the tracks selected – a combination of CDs, streaming and vinyl – either being examples of music we experienced and liked at the many different Munich exhibitor rooms, or some new music we discovered when visiting our Döhmann Helix turntable distributor in the Netherlands, Rhapsody Audio.

After a welcome by Paul, we started with a couple of CDs on our Norma CD player – the Stenheim demonstration CD “Imagine” by the Charl Du Plessis Trio, followed by “Sketches of Seasons”, an SACD issued by Rhapsody Audio Records, both received with enthusiasm. This led us into a group of tracks we simply loved from Munich, streamed via Roon on our Taiko server and Ypsilon DAC. Our collection of photos taken on our Munich/Netherlands adventure was running as a slideshow on a TV during the night, giving Mark inspiration for a few comments on various components and systems we saw and heard – but especially the new G.M.T. System turntable from Wilson Benesch. It’s an engineering marvel!

By 9pm, the photo-show was turned off and the needle dropped. More tracks heard at Munich were played on LPs using our Helix Two Mk3 turntable. We dialled-up the genre variety, with Classical, Techno and Opera all from Munich and all given a chance for a listen. Soon it was time for our second refreshments treat – German cake, made lovingly by Mark’s mum! Another big hit with the audience.

By the official end of the evening at 9.30pm, no one really wanted to leave! We kept on with more vinyl by request or inspiration, until our last guests drifted home about 11.15pm.

We hope everyone had as wonderful a time as we did hosting the evening. It certainly made us look forward to our next music night!
