Meet the Team

Our People

Nirvana Sound is comprised of many passionate, experienced and talented people. Each person that works within our team or within our network is first and foremost a ‘music-nutter’ with an infectious enthusiasm for music and a desire to help others achieve a great sound. Beyond that, our people are carefully selected for their experience with equipment, room set-up and all the factors that combine to achieve enjoyment of this hobby. We welcome you to contact Nirvana Sound and meet our wonderful team but here’s a brief introduction to some of our people:

MIKE KIRKHAM

Managing Director

Mike could sing before he could talk and by 17 was performing in local Adelaide bands, initially as a drummer and later as guitarist / lead vocalist. By his mid 20’s his bands had toured Australia and featured as support act for many notable acts of the time, including Dire Straits, The Wonder Stuff and Nick Cave. One of his bands was signed to Warner Music and released an EP which briefly showed up in the Australian charts. Mike also wrote vocal tuition books that were published in the late nineties, as well as jingles and music for independent films. Alongside pursuing his musical ambitions, Mike worked in hifi shops, both in Australia and in the UK and this is where his “inner Audiophile” emerged.

After returning from living in Edinburgh in the mid 2000’s, Mike established his own business “The Electric Room” – a professional audio retailer with friend and business partner Peter Foster. In 2010 they formed Magenta Audio, a hifi distribution company and in 2014 purchased the Australian amplifier brand “Halcro”.

Now with the acquisition of Nirvana Sound Mike’s love of music and audio can be expressed at whole new level and he is excited to be able to share this passion and knowledge with Nirvana customers.

TIM BRIERLY

National Sales Manager

Tim’s passion for HiFi began early. While most teenagers were saving for their first car, Tim was teaching himself to solder and sourcing parts to build his first HiFi system. He gradually amassed a collection of pro audio gear and analogue synthesizers for his music studio. This early curiosity evolved into a lifelong passion for music and an unwavering pursuit of sonic excellence, always pushing his skills and knowledge further.

He went on to study audio engineering, launching a career in live sound where he mixed countless bands and designed large-scale line array systems for music festivals and events. Beyond engineering, Tim worked in event management, overseeing complex productions and serving as a lead organiser of a long running series of multi-stage music festivals, including overseeing and designing the audio systems in use. His deepening love of sound also led to recording, mixing, and mastering work, alongside his own releases as an accomplished electronic music producer, DJ, and live performer.

Over a decade ago, Tim transitioned into HiFi distribution and retail. In that time, he has travelled extensively across Australia, experiencing hundreds of high-end audio systems firsthand. These experiences have shaped his deep understanding of component synergy and, when combined with his background in musicianship and recording, left him with a clear impression: the variation in sonic performance is vast, and the industry was lacking in experts who can offer informed, personalised HiFi consultancy, which leads him to where he is today.

Today, Tim finds fulfilment in helping customers achieve their own moments of “audio nirvana.”

“Great sound isn’t just heard—it’s felt. It connects people and creates moments that last a lifetime.”

George Moraitis

GEORGE MORAITIS

Founder

One of George’s first childhood memories was the joy of listening to his father play guitar. With a professional guitarist father and a folk-singer mother, there was almost a feeling of inevitability that George would have a strong connection to music in his life. Known for his passion for music and the wide range of equipment that has graced his listening room, George enjoys nothing more than sharing music with people.

Due to his travel & involvement in high-end audio over decades, George has experienced some of the most well-known & accomplished audiophile systems in the world. He has a passion for music and an infectious enthusiasm for achieving great sound. Overseeing the company’s sales & marketing activities, he writes blogs and spends a lot of his time critically listening & curating the product offerings. “One of the benefits of this hobby is that you meet very interesting people and the friendships formed over listening to music are very precious to me. I am driven to give our clients the same joy that I feel when I’m at a concert or immersed in my favourite record at home.”

CHRIS CAMILLERI

Analog Calibration Specialist

Chris remembers being captivated by music ever since he was six years old, cheekily playing his sister’s vinyl while she was out working. Originally being exposed to his parent’s country & western tunes in the car, then his brother in-law’s club music of the 80s, he later met his partner and was exposed to an even broader dimension of music, from rock to classical and everything in between. While enjoying an extensive career in the corporate sector, his enthusiasm for music and the need to tinker with equipment led him to being introduced to Mark Doehmann of the Nirvana Sound family. His teachings around turntable calibration have always fascinated Chris and after years of learning, acquiring the right tools and developing extensive experience with calibration techniques, Chris was appointed as Nirvana Sound’s Analog Calibration Specialist. Chris’s knowledge, attention to detail, patience and perfectionist attitude have made him one of Australia’s best cartridge calibration experts and coupled with his generous & witty personality, he has become a favourite among the Nirvana Sound community.
